Lancaster City Council confirmed at a Cabinet
meeting held on the 16th February 2016 that it wished to
participate in the Syrian refugee resettlement programme. To date,
15 families have been resettled in the district through the
resettlement. The programme is co-ordinated by Lancashire County
Council and funded by the Home Office. The programme is fully
funded at no cost to the City Council.
In June 2019, The Government announced a new global resettlement
scheme for the most vulnerable refugees. Lancashire County Council
are seeking pledges from district Councils to participate in the
new resettlement scheme. Specifically, they are asking if Lancaster
City Council would consider resettling 5 families in the district
in July 2020. The funding arrangements remain the same.
