APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE

Minutes:

Apologies for absence were received from Councillors Rob Devey, Mel Guilding, Janet Hall, Brendan Hughes, Christopher Leadbetter, John Wild, Paul Woodruff and Peter Yates.

2.

VOTE OF THANKS

To give a Vote of Thanks to the retiring Mayor.

Minutes:

A vote of thanks to the retiring Mayor was moved by Councillor Peter Williamson and seconded by Councillor Sheila Denwood.

 

On being put to the vote, the proposition was clearly carried.

 

The retiring Mayor responded.

 

Resolved:

 

(1)             That the best thanks of the City Council be conveyed to the retiring Mayor, Councillor Susie Charles for the service rendered to the City during 2014/15 and for presiding over the deliberations of the City Council during that period.

 

 

 

3.

Election of Mayor

To elect the Mayor of the City of Lancaster for the ensuing year.

Minutes:

It was moved by Councillor Ron Sands and seconded by Councillor June Ashworth that Councillor Jon Barry be elected Mayor of the City of Lancaster for the ensuing municipal year.

 

On being put to the vote, the Mayor declared the proposition clearly carried.

 

Resolved:

 

That Councillor Jon Barry be elected Mayor of the City of Lancaster for the ensuing municipal year.

 

Councillor Barry thereupon made and subscribed a Declaration of Acceptance of Office as required by Section 83(3) of the Local Government Act 1972 as amended before the Chief Executive as the proper officer of the Council.

 

The Chair was then vacated by Councillor Charles and taken by the Mayor.

 

On taking the Chair, the Mayor expressed his thanks to the meeting and presented the retiring Mayor with her badge.

 

4.

Election of Deputy Mayor

To elect a Deputy Mayor for the ensuing year.

Minutes:

Upon the invitation of the Mayor, Councillor Margaret Pattison proposed:-

 

“That Councillor Caroline Jackson be elected Deputy Mayor of the City of Lancaster for the ensuing municipal year”.

 

The proposition was seconded by Councillor Tim Hamilton-Cox. 

 

On being put to the vote, the Mayor declared the proposition clearly carried.

 

Resolved:

 

That Councillor Caroline Jackson be elected Deputy Mayor of the City of Lancaster for the ensuing municipal year.

 

Councillor Caroline Jackson thereupon made and subscribed the Declaration of Acceptance of Office as required by Section 83(3) of the Local Government Act 1972 as amended before the Chief Executive as the proper officer of the Council.   

 

 

5.

Presentation of Certificates of Service

To present Certificates of Service to outgoing Councillors in recognition of their contribution to the Council for a period of at least two full terms of office.

 

Minutes:

It was proposed by Councillor Abbott Bryning and seconded by Councillor Geoff Knight:

 

‘That the Council present a Certificate of Service to those retiring Councillors who have been in office for a period of at least two full terms, in recognition of their contribution to the Council.’

 

On being put to the vote the Mayor declared the proposition clearly carried.

 

Resolved:

 

That the Council present a Certificate of Service to the following former Councillors in recognition of their contribution to the Council for a period of at least two full terms of office:

 

Chris Coates

Paul Gardner

John Harrison

Tony Johnson

Geoff Marsland

Keith Sowden

 

The Mayor presented the certificates.

 

6.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

To receive any announcements which may be submitted by the Mayor or Chief Executive.  

Minutes:

The Mayor announced the arrangements for Mayor’s Sunday on 24 May 2015. A service would be held at the Priory Church of St Mary, Lancaster commencing at 11.30am, which all would be very welcome to attend.

 

The Mayor then thanked all the children and young people from local schools for attending to watch the meeting.
